Unity in the Church creating friendship across racial lines

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity.

Psalm 133:1

It All Started with a Game of Catch

Like many good friendships, this one started with a tailgate party tossing a ball around. When the guys from David McFadden’s church in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago invited some guys from a large church in the Chicago suburbs for a Sox-Cubs Crosstown Classic, they realized that meaningful connections start with proximity. That’s when David realized there is power in unity and that this is God’s desire for us.

How We Show Up Matters

We can be frustrated with how things are - or we can put ourselves out there and make change happen organically. It’s easier than you may think it is. Unity in the Church was formed to make those connections feel natural, not forced or awkward. You will meet men different from you in a typical guys setting - a baseball game, a zoom call, a men’s retreat, a restaurant, even at church. Relationships are key to building bridges. It takes listening, empathy and understanding. You may find out you have more in common than you think.

TESTIMONIALS

“There was a chemistry, unity, power, oneness, that took the tailgate to a level that blew the men away!” David M.

“I have made some incredible lifelong friends in the Unity Small Group and learned so much. But I mostly joined because I want to love like Jesus loved.” Bill M.

“I too often gravitate to people who are similar to me. But God created the church to be varied and diverse to reflect the beauty of his character. Unity Small Groups are a great opportunity to build relationships with men who are different from me and work together for justice and reconciliation.” Dave L.

“This has had a profound effect on my relationship with God and has brought me into a community of brothers in Christ that I lacked previously, I’m ashamed to say. We’re commanded throughout Scripture for the body of Christ to break down walls of all types of ethnic, racial, cultural differences, especially when we share the same faith. This is a great environment to share, explore, and celebrate different perspectives while growing in our relationship with Christ and others.” - Karl G.

“Christianity isn’t meant to be done alone. Our camaraderie is outstanding.” -Victor A.

“What an unforgettable time! God was doing a great thing! And all who witnessed it were truly blessed.” - Michael E.
